Helping you better connect with Camden Valley Church

We have finally come of age and now have our own post office box, so you can send all your fan mail (but no junk mail please) to:

Camden Valley Church, PO Box 68, Camden, NSW, 2570.

It's easy to remember as it is the same as the church's street address - 68 Macarthur Road. Thanks Treasurer.

Moire shares with us how you could help international students coming to Australia by opening your home up as a Homestay Family.  I know of one family that did this years ago and have created a life long bond with the student and her family that resulted in a number of exchange holidays to Japan and the family were even invited recently to the young lady's wedding in Japan!

It is a sad week for many of us this week as we mourn the loss of Camden idenity Chris Boardman, following a motorbike accident last Monday. Many of you will know her as the proprieter of The Argyle Gourmet in the main street and a leading member of Cawdor Uniting Church. She is survived by her husband Max and 2 children.

Don't forget the urgent need for more Scripture teachers in our area.

Men - our next M.A.N. night, 'Forged in Fire', is on Friday June 20.

Our Christmas in July in June is getting closer - more details below.

Also, if you miss a church service or just want a rerun, you can always catch up with the sermon on YouTube or Facebook or on the website.

Scripture in Camden

Scripture in Camden

Our scripture classes in Camden schools is overseen by Youthworks with assistance from St Johns. The following is an advertisement from Youthworks CEO Craig Roberts requesting more involement in this important outreach.

Right now, communities across NSW are asking for Special Religious Education (SRE or “scripture”) – more loudly and clearly than ever before. Our own Lyn Dench has over 50 students in one of her classes at Camden Public School. Another local school is asking for SRE to be organised for them too, saying “we would love to have this.” Camden has lost three teachers this year. Glenis and Alan Pride have retired, and Neidra Hill passed away suddenly last year. There is a big space where they used to be.

It’s clear too that the demand for SRE is growing. This year has the highest number of SRE enrolments since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Schools want this. Families want this. Children want this. Your support is urgently needed to ensure that more children don’t miss out on the opportunity to explore faith for themselves.

Your generosity right now can ensure children have the ongoing chance to explore Christian faith in a safe, supportive environment; hear about the person and work of Jesus from God’s Word; ask questions and discover answers about faith and life.

We need more teachers! Training and support are given. You can help with another scripture teacher too if you’re unsure about braving kids on your own. Camden Public classes are on Fridays, Camden South Public classes are on Tuesdays and as well there are needs for teachers in other schools nearby.

A determined minority of anti-faith campaigners is trying to shut down SRE or marginalise it to after-school hours only. That’s why it’s essential that friends like you – everyday people who see the value in SRE and believe in young people’s right to make their own decisions about faith – stand strong. Every time you and I don’t show courage in speaking up to protect what these children have been promised in legislation, they miss out!

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” (1 Corinthians 16:13 NIV)

Contact Lyn Dench or Louise Ferris for more information.

Homestay Families at Macarthur Anglican

Macarthur Anglican School warmly invites you to join our Homestay Family Community and make a meaningful difference in the life of an international student. By welcoming a student into your home, you’ll be offering so much more than a place to stay—you’ll be providing a sense of belonging, comfort, and support as they embark on their educational journey in Australia.

As a homestay family, you’ll have the unique opportunity to build lifelong friendships and share the joys of Australian family life with a young person from another part of the world. You’ll help shape their experience, introduce them to our culture and traditions, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Along the way, you’ll receive dedicated support from our school staff and the existing Homestay community, ensuring you feel confident and connected throughout the experience. We also provide financial compensation as a token of appreciation for your generosity and hospitality.

Whether you’re able to host for just a few weeks or for a longer period, your kindness will have a lasting impact, helping a student feel truly at home while they study at Macarthur. If you’d like to learn more about this incredibly rewarding opportunity, please reach out to Nadine James at homestay@macarthur.nsw.edu.au.

To see how much of an impact you could make, watch MAS's Homestay video.

Also, you may have heard several people refer to 'Lectio' over the past few months.

Lectio 365 is a free app (Apple and Android) that is a daily devotional to help you pause in the presence of God.

It is written (and vocalised) by leaders of the 24-7 Prayer movement. Their website is https://www.24-7prayer.com.
