What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that create a safe and honest space, online or in person, where people can explore life, faith and meaning.

The 3 ingredients in each session are Connection, Content and Conversation. See below for more details.

CVC will be presenting the free Alpha course starting on 17th May 2026.

The sessions will be from 6 to 8pm on Sunday evenings, for 6 weeks.

Each evening will consist of dinner, 2 videos and a discussion.

The location for the course will be confirmed soon.

 1    CONNECTION

All sessions start with a time to connect, relax and build friendships, typically over a meal.

 2    CONTENT

This is followed by the Alpha talk that is designed to engage people from all walks of life and inspire conversation.

They explore the big issues of life and faith and unpack the basics of Christian belief, addressing questions like “Who is Jesus?”,  “Why and how do I pray?” and “How does God guide us?”

 3    CONVERSATION

Then there is one of the most important parts of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and discuss in a small group.

There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say (seriously).

It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.
