"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." - John 13:34

Notice this replaces, “love your neighbour as you love yourself”. It’s a new command; it supersedes the previous command in Mark 12:31.

Jesus said, “Love your neighbour as Christ loves you.” It sounds simple, but it asks something costly of us. Loving our neighbour means seeing people not as interruptions, problems, or strangers, but as people made in the image of God.

Our neighbour is not only the person who lives next door or the friend who agrees with us. Our neighbour may be the lonely person we overlook, the colleague who tests our patience, or the stranger who needs help. Love becomes real through small actions: listening without rushing, speaking with kindness, forgiving an offence, sharing what we have, and standing beside someone who feels forgotten.

We may not be able to change the whole world today, but we can change someone’s world. So let us ask: Who has God placed in front of me, and what would love require of me now? Then, by God’s grace, let us go and do it.
